Less We Forget: Silent Soldiers in Colston Bassett

Documents & Statements Uploaded on November 3, 2022

During the Great War 1914-18 many of the Colston Bassett villagers signed up to fight.  Those that did not return are listed on a memorial at St John the Divine Church and each year we try to honour them by placing silhouettes to their memory around the village during November.

The fourteen Silent Soldier silhouettes carry the name, rank and other details of each of The Fallen and are traditionally placed in venues around the village that were associated with them, although these venues may be slightly adjusted each year. Fuller biographical details on each soldier can be found in the attached document.

Our thanks are due to the members of the Royal British Legion (Colston Bassett, Owthorpe and Cotgrave Branch) and the Local History Group for helping to keep the memory of their sacrifice alive.
