Colston Bassett Cricket Club

Category: Local Groups

Colston Bassett Cricket Club are based at a beautiful venue off Washpit Lane, adjacent to China Bridge and the River Smite. The Cricket Club host several Teams, both based on village residents as well as in recent years also hosting younger teams from adjacent villages. The Club and grounds are very well maintained by local volunteers and can offer an excellent way to pass a lazy summer afternoon to the pleasant backdrop of willow on leather.

The Cricket Pavilion sits in the valley below Colston Bassett Hall Grounds and St Mary’s Church and can be accessed both by road (off Washpit Lane) or by footpath from either Church Gate (via the signposted Footpath over Pollards Bridge or from Jubilee Walk off New Road). Washpit Lane connects Church Gate and New Road, and looking over the low parapet of China Bridge the outline remnants of the old wash-pit can still be seen at most times of the year, although this area and even the cricket ground have also disappeared under winter and spring floods in recent years.

Contact with the Club can be made via the Parish Clerk, who will refer your enquiry on to the appropriate Cricket Club Officials as appropriate.

Despite the ongoing problems associated with the Covid 19 Pandemic the Colston Bassett cc Sunday XI led on and off the field by Sam Jennings capped a very enjoyable and successful season. Culminating in winning Division 2 of the Newark Club Cricket Alliance Sunday Cricket League.

Played 14 – Won 8 – Lost 3 – Total 40 Points.

Overall, a consistent and dedicated team and squad of players playing to a high standard resulted in the team’s success. This was highlighted by some outstanding individual performances from Essan Warner for his season long batting and all-rounder heroics; our Club stalwart Ian Keetley taking the honours for not only Division 2 but also as the overall League’s top bowler, and narrowly followed by Ethan Wright in his breakthrough all-rounder season.

The Midweek Evening Twenty20 XI were not outdone having a successful season Winning 6 out of a total of 9 Friendly Games played with Sam Foster; Ethan Wright and Shaun Harrison taking the honours.

The Occasional and always enjoyable Friendly XI also indulged in a winning streak throughout the Summer Playing 4 games. Winning 3 with 1 Tied.

As always Thanks to all Players and Volunteers who support and maintain our Club and picturesque ground at Washpit Lane.
